FICUS HOUSE – BLOCK WALL

The feature wall in the central courtyard (designed by Zarch) comprised a series of stacked rotating cubes. Each row is offset from the one below to create diagonal waves across the surface.

The cubes were cast in concrete, with moulds formed to cast modules of 5 joined cubes, the modules were then stacked in order on site and secured via central rods and custom brackets to the supporting structure.

The complete wall measures 3.5m wide x 7.3m high and comprised 250 modules forming 1225 blocks. 10 blocks were replace with frosted glass, to provide moments of connection between the main courtyard and a bathroom that is positioned behind the block wall.
