FICUS HOUSE – FACADE FINS

The approach elevation is clad with a series of white painted aluminum fins. Straight fins are fixed perpendicular to the elevation, and curved fins (each in an ‘s’ shape) are positioned between these. The ‘S’ fins are in line with the front of the straight fins at the top of the facade and in line with the back of the straight fins at the bottom. The height of the ‘S’ curve varies for each fin, with some fins omitted to accommodate slot windows behind.

The smooth curves and changing position of the fins work to break down the monolithic facade and a feeling of delicate movement, or possibly erosion. Depending of the time of day and cloud cover, the facade can appear quite soft and diffuse, or have its geometry sharply expressed by shadows.
