A remodelling of a grade 4 listed, 10,000 ft² farmhouse in St John, Jersey.
The brief involved making numerous adjustments to the main house and its associated outbuildings, with the focus being to introduce a new master suite into a converted barn.
To achieve this, a mezzanine was positioned to each end of the barn, and a metal walkway was introduced to connect them, accessed via a new folded-plate steel staircase. A glass-walled bathroom pod was built the mezzanine nearer the barn’s entrance.
Finishes and materials were chosen to complement and celebrate the existing fabric of the barn, including rich timber veneers and plank format tiling. The lighting scheme was carefully designed to emphasise the barn’s roof space with its original rafters.
Elsewhere in the house, Hatterwan were involved in reworking the kitchen to introduce a new seating area, designing a new gym and sauna, designing a new conservatory, and designing custom chandeliers which were fabricated by a local metalworker.
