A complete remodelling of a duplex penthouse in a Kensington mansion block.
The primary design goals were to bring integrate the kitchen into the main open space, introduce a dedicated home cinema area and replan the master bedroom to include a walk-in wardrobe and a dressing room.
The material palette concentrated on rich, natural tones, and dark timber joinery and dark lacquers and back painted glass. A dark bronze was chosen for Ironmongery and switch plates.
A new cantilevered timber staircase was designed to connect the upper and lower floors, with hidden lighting set around each tread so they appear to float away from the walls. A frameless glass balustrade with curved bronze handrail emphasises the stairs floating quality.
Kitchen, bathroom and incidental joinery was provided by Boffi, with Hatterwan co-ordinating these elements with the overall design.
Consideration was given to the location of the clients existing artworks with wall panelling and light placement being set out to suit.
Smart controls were installed throughout to control scene lighting, underfloor heating and air conditioning, the project also included the installation of a steam shower
Hatterwan acted as Principal Designer for the project. As the mansion block was a hatter risk building, Hatterwan also managed the higher risk building application submissions to the Health and Safety Executive.
