A replanning of a one-bedroom apartment in a grade II listed mansion block.
The client’s brief was to make to most of the very high ceilings and large windows and provide an occasional space for guests to stay.
Non-original partitions and dropped ceilings were removed, creating an open plan kitchen and restoring the rooms original proportions. The central bathroom was redesigned at a part-height ‘pod’ which allowed a small mezzanine with frameless glass balustrade to be installed above it, providing an occasional sleeping area. The pod also discreetly housed several kitchen elements, including a fridge and larder.
A light, clean material palette was chosen, with white-oiled larch floors, timber effect laminate, back painted glass and white solid surface worktops. Linear LED lighting was used to wash walls and increase the sense of airiness within the space.
